Martogg LCM
Life Cycle Management Solutions
Date Released: 01 OCT 2006
The Martogg Group of Companies has been manufacturing and marketing polymer
compounds, engineering and commodity resins and recycled plastics to the
Australian plastics industry and selected export markets since 1975.
Over this time Martogg Group companies, Martogg & Company, Encor,
General Polymers and most recently Gentrade have continuously serviced
virtually every sector of the Australian plastics converter industry.
The company is now poised to further enhance its position in the plastics
recycling sector through the establishment of Martogg LCM® that will
provide polymer Life Cycle Management (LCM®) solutions to the plastics
industry.
Martogg LCM® leverages the Martogg Group's established position as
a reputable and expert polymer distributor, resin compounder and recycler
and takes full advantage of the Group's:
- Polymers knowledge and polymer compounding know-how and technology.
Martogg understands polymers, polymer additives and compounding and
knows how to formulate and manufacture added value products from a wide
range of input materials, from virgin resin through to recycled plastic.
- Well-equipped and staffed laboratory facilities with the technical
competence and knowledge required to develop and QA/QC products to defined
specifications, and to ensure the manufacture and supply of products
to consistent and known quality standards.
- Extensive and knowledgeable sales and marketing network coupled with
a broad product range and customer mix. This gives Martogg LCM®
immediate access to customers for second life polymers and also provides
a closed loop resource of LCM® polymer feedstocks.
- Unique position as Australia's only polymer compounder/distributor
and recycler that can offer the combination of prime and second use
polymer products to virtually all segments of the Australian plastics
industry.
"Life Cycle Management is not just recycling."
In acknowledgement of government environmental policy initiatives such
as the Victorian Government's Toward Zero Waste (TZW) strategy, Martogg
LCM® recognizes that the Life Cycle Management of products and resources,
and environmental sustainability, are key future business challenges for
industry and consumers alike as landfill becomes an increasingly unacceptable
option for the disposal of consumer waste and products at their end of
life.
Martogg LCM® expects to further enhance the company's commitment to
product stewardship by ultimately bringing together the brand owners,
designers, manufacturers, suppliers, retailers, consumers and Martogg
LCM® as end-of-life managers, in order to recover the plastic materials
used in finished consumer products, for subsequent re-introduction back
into the product cycle as value added, second use materials.
"Investing in a Life Cycle Management Solution"
The Martogg Group has committed significant expenditure in 2006 for the
purchase of new processing equipment and capital works in order to lead
the market in providing Life Cycle Management Solutions to the plastic
converting industry and its customers. This investment will support and
compliment the company's sales of both prime and recycled/second use polymers
to its immediate customer base and ultimately, consumers further down
the supply chain.
In October 2006 Martogg LCM®, will commence operations with new,
purpose built plastics waste management plant that is integrated into
the company's existing manufacturing facility located in Dandenong, Victoria.
With its new investment, Martogg LCM® will introduce to the Australian
plastics industry, a streamlined waste plastics recycling process with
a versatile, modular layout that is designed to optimize productivity
and throughput both efficiently and safely. Features of the new Martogg
LCM® plant and process include:
- A new purpose built raw materials receiving and handling yard in which
material, received in Martogg LCM® owned stillages, can be safely
and securely stored in designated concrete walled bays as it awaits
classification and processing.
- A custom built lifting and tipping device that has been designed
to safely and efficiently feed raw materials from collection and storage
stillages into the Martogg LCM® process stream with minimal manual
handling required.
- Centre piece machines include a Lindner Recyclingtech Micromat 2200
shredder and an Erema PC 1514 TVE cutter compactor recycling extruder.
Martogg LCM® specifically selected these two machines as they represent
the "state of the art" of polymer recycling equipment and
reflect the company's intention to build an added value polymer recycling
business over the long term.
- Additional granulation and guillotine capacity designed to compliment
Martogg LCM's ® existing size reduction capability.
- Intermediate product storage, take-off and handling capability.
- Finished product blending and silo storage and handling capacity
in a segregated filling hall with both 25kg bag and FIBC packaging capability.
- Access to the company's fully equipped and staffed laboratory facilities
for both raw material and finished product QA/QC and product development.
"Life Cycle Management Solutions from Martogg LCM"
Martogg LCM® recognises that Life Cycle Management of plastics is
more than just the processing of plastic waste and therefore offers safe
and secure, environmentally responsible Life Cycle Management solutions
for the many and varied plastic waste streams generated by the plastics
industry and its products and consumers.
The company has dedicated and experienced personnel who can help with
the identification of viable plastic waste stream sources, and then develop
and manage customer specific waste collection and logistics services on
a site-by-site basis, utilising the company's own logistics partners and
specialist third party contactors.
Such is the versatility and flexibility of the company's new LCM®
process that Martogg LCM® can handle and process virtually any type
and form of thermoplastic waste, including finished products at their
end of life.
Polymer types targeted by Martogg LCM® for the company's "Recyclene"
range of second-use polymers include PP, PE, GPPS, HIPS, ABS, Nylons and
PC and also includes some filled materials.
Martogg LCM can accept post industrial and selected post consumer waste
streams including;
- sheet and sheet off-cuts and web scrap
- film and film scrap, bags, baled and on cores
- pipe and irrigation tube
- materials handling film, crates, totes, pallet boxes, FIBCs
- reject bottles and injection mouldings, sprues and scrap
- fibre and yarn
- segregated regrind
- swarf from cutting and machining
- purging blocks
In addition, Martogg LCM® can offer custom LCM® solutions to
plastic processors and to their customers. This life cycle process involves
secure destruction of reject/obsolete products and trial materials followed
by polymer remediation and re-extrusion (to an agreed specification as
required) for subsequent re-use by the customer.
The Martogg Group's investment in Martogg LCM® represents a significant
commitment by a major player in the Australian plastics industry. Its
aim is the sustainable future of the industry in this country.
The company is confident that this first step taken into plastics Life
Cycle Management solutions will place Martogg LCM® at the forefront
of plastics recycling in the future.
